Jean-Paul Deprins

Managing Director

Jean-Paul, hailing from Belgium, has dedicated twenty years to his role as the Managing Director of Better Globe Forestry Limited in East Africa. He brings a wealth of expertise from his extensive senior management experience in both European and East

African contexts. Jean-Paul is a staunch proponent of ethical and transparent business practices, highlighting the importance of a systematic and evidence-driven approach to addressing challenges. He is also acutely attuned to the social issues intertwined with forestry in the East African drylands, emphasizing the need for resourcefulness and creativity in overcoming anticipated and unforeseen obstacles associated with pioneering forestry in this region.


Jan Vandenabeele

Senior Director Forestry

Jan is a Belgian forester and agronomist with 40 years of experience in management and technical implementation of locally and internationally financed projects in Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia. As a senior director

in BGF his wealth of experience and his high level contacts in the forestry world are invaluable and have opened many doors such allowing us to be the pioneers in dryland afforestation in East Africa. As the Editor-in-chief of Miti, he is the driving force behind the magazine with editorial boards in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.


Lawrence Mulandi

Finance and Operations Director

Lawrence started working with Better Globe Forestry (BGF) as an accountant, became a finance manager and was later promoted to Finance Director. He has been instrumental in guiding the accounts department through the

transition from a small company to a fast-growing medium-sized organisation. He holds a master's degree in business administration - strategic management and is now pursuing a PhD in business administration, specialising in finance. He is also a certified public accountant of Kenya - CPA (K) - and a certified internal systems auditor. Lawrence is an observer to the board.


Samuel Nakhone

Executive Director Forestry

Dedicated and results-oriented forestry professional with a passion for sustainable resource management. Adept at leveraging extensive knowledge of global forestry practices, environmental

conservation, and strategic planning to contribute effectively to the mission of Better Glob Forestry. Over ten years of proven ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, implement innovative solutions, and drive positive change within the forestry sector.


Claudiah Caroline Deprins

Deputy Director Communications

Claudiah is an experienced and dedicated professional in Public Relations, having spent over a decade at Better Globe Forestry. She began her career at BGF in 2011 as a Partnerships Coordinator in Child Africa,

where she quickly demonstrated her value as a team member. In 2017, Claudiah took on the role of Subscription Coordinator for BGF's Publication Miti Magazine, showcasing her ability to adapt and excel in different areas. Recognising her expertise, she was promoted to Communications Manager in 2018 and further elevated to Deputy Director of Communications in 2022. Claudiah's wealth of experience and innovative mindset contribute significantly to the success of BGF's strategic endeavours.


Lydia Kathure Kubai

Deputy Director Human Resources

Lydia is a versatile professional with a strong foundation in finance and a wealth of experience in human resources. Lydia joined Better Globe Forestry in 2018 as a Senior Accountant,

leveraging her expertise in finance and commerce. Over the years, she seamlessly transitioned into the role of Human Resource Manager, showcasing her adaptability and commitment, and subsequently earned a promotion to Deputy Director of Human Resources. She is an integral part of the organization, driving forward impactful people-centric initiatives that contribute to the overall success of the company.
